We are just days away from July 26th presentation of the new 2011 Ford Explorer, but today the agony of drip-fed teasers is blunted a bit by the announcement by Ford that has achieved its goal of 30,000 fans of the new Explorer Facebook page, and therefore will be giving away one of the crosses to one of the fans. They have even released a new teaser of the grid in the Explorer’s like a kind of thanks.
The measure is part of Ford’s strategy of launching Facebook. Although initially expected a Facebook-only launch, Ford has announced a multi-city presentation to be held across the continent on Monday. But if you’re in New York, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Washington DC, or Toronto, you can still keep pace online.
Ford will launch a new “drawing” tab on the Facebook page to coordinate the promotion. As the company posted on the fan page, “Congratulations Explorer fans! We hit 30,000 fans and Ford is pleased to present a brand new Ford Explorer 2011. Stay tuned for the launch of our new contest, so you can enter for chance to win. We promise you’ll be the first to know. ”
Two decades ago, Ford introduced a medium size body-on-frame SUV called Explorer trading some off-road performance for a measure of comfort on the road. Thus, the Explorer struck a chord with families tired of cars (and car-watch), was announcing the SUV. Now, of course, that era has passed, and the final nail in the coffin comes in the form of the 2011 Ford Explorer, which, after years of speculation, has been spied in the street with new crossover-style proportions, leaving his trucky body-on-frame construction for carlike unibody.
What we can expect fundamental change is a much more comfortable and more useful-Explorer. It will retain his seat up to seven passengers (to differentiate it from the periphery to five passengers), sitting on a wide track and long wheelbase, and therefore is expected to bring improvements integral dynamic, including smoother ride, more taut handling, and better sound insulation. Aerodynamics will be much better than Explorer brick like today for better fuel efficiency and high-speed stability. Even more useful will be the installation of more powerful propulsion systems and fuel-efficient, probably the same 3.5-liter V-6 cribbed the Taurus and Flex, with and without EcoBoost (Ford-speak for turbocharged direct injection). Yes, you may see a 350 horsepower Explorer next time. Also expected is a low-end model with an EcoBoost four-cylinder engine making 230 horsepower, and that Ford has said that nearly all passenger vehicles will be offered with a four-cylinder in future repetitions.
Styling-wise, the guessing game is over with this latest batch of images. With characteristics very similar to the fold Taurus including upper body and grille, the Explorer has been crowned with signal lamps amber, located in a very large and low-hanging front fascia. Square window pillars, a broad, flat roof, and a stylish D-pillar angle are confirmed, and LED taillights are visible from previous vaccines.
Creature comforts do not know what additional installed in the new Explorer, but we think it’s safe to say that everything that Ford was able to put in the Taurus should fit well in the Explorer. That list includes heated and cooled seats, Sync Sony audio, radar cruise control, plenty of soft-touch adjustment, blind control, and a rainbow of ambient lighting options.
Jeep is probably very happy that the Grand Cherokee is losing its domestic competitor only true off-road-worthy, but we can only hope that Honda, Toyota, Nissan and GM are not too happy to see the cross Explorer, so to speak, in its territory. The Explorer is expected to hit showrooms this fall.
